UPDATE: Two dead in plane crash south of Christoval, victims identified (2024)

Sgt. Justin Baker said there were no survivors in the crash and it has been determined the victims were a 65-year old man and 48-year old woman from San Diego.

TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE (3:07 p.m. Dec. 15):The Texas Department of Public Safety determined the two victims to be 65-year old Gregg C. Seaman and 48-year old Courtney Koranda Seaman, both from San Diego, California.

Next of kin have been made aware.

UPDATE (9:05 a.m. Dec. 15):The NTSB released preliminary information saying at 12:38 p.m. (Dec. 14), a Pilatus PC-12 airplane crashed in a field after a missed approach at San Angelo Regional Airport with two people on board.

An NTSB investigator is on the way to the scene and is expected to arrive Friday morning. Once on site, the investigator will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered to a secure facility for further evaluation, the NTSB said.

The agency will not determine or speculate on the cause of the accident at the scene.

It will investigate the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment and gather information including flight track data; recordings of air traffic control communications; maintenance records for the plane; weather information around the time of the accident; witness statements as well as any available surveillance video, including from doorbell cameras.

Witnesses to the crash or anyone with surveillance video or other information that could be relevant to the investigation are asked to contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov.

The NTSB said it does not have a role in releasing of the identities of victims and/or the extent and number of injuries or of those injured or killed. Identifications will be handled by local authorities, the agency said.

A preliminary report will be available within 30 days on the NTSB's investigations database with the NTSB number CEN24FA064 and posted on NTSB Newsroom Twitter .

The preliminary report will contain factual information gathered during the initial phase of the investigation.

Our sister station, First Coast News in Jacksonville, Florida, says flight patterns show the plane had left from Craig Airport in Jacksonville Thursday morning.

Additionally, flight records show since August, the plane has flown more than a dozen times. It is seen frequently taking off from San Diego's Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, and landing in Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming and Florida for a few days before returning to San Diego.

On Oct. 21, 2023, the plane flew from San Diego and landed in Fort Lauderdale. Since then, it's taken numerous trips back and forth between Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville.

Its latest trip was taken from Fort Lauderdale to Jacksonville Dec. 13, before it flew out of state Thursday.

UPDATE (8:25 a.m. Dec. 15): The FAA has confirmed two fatalities in the Dec. 14 airplane crash south of Christoval.

According to the report, a pilot and a passenger were the only two on the Pilatus PC-12 aircraft, which was destroyed in the crash.

The FAA says the plane crashed under "unknown circ*mstances" on approach.

UPDATE (3:45 p.m. Dec. 14):There are no survivors in the plane crash south of Christoval, DPS confirmed Thursday afternoon.

Texas DPS Sgt. Justin Baker said from the scene, "At approximately 12:38 p.m., the Tom Green County Sheriff's Department was notified of an airplane crash in and around the area of Christoval, south of the Christoval area. With the assistance of CBP (Customs and Border Protection), the airplane crash was located approximately four miles south of Christoval on a ranch."

First responders were dispatched to the area and there was an effort, search and rescue, for any possible survivors, he said.

"Sadly, I'm going to have to report that there were no survivors of this airplane crash," Baker said.

DPS will secure the scene until the FAA and NTSB arrive on scene to conduct the investigation.

According to ADS-B Exchange, the flight came from Jacksonville. Our sister station First Coast News confirmed this information.

Flight Aware and ADS-B confirmed shows the plane is owned by Timeless U.S.A., LLC from Wilmington, Delaware.

Flight Aware says the flight pattern is not available per owner request.

In an audio transmission just prior to the crash after the pilot is given clearance by the control tower, he can be heard saying, "We overshot it."

Then, "We've got a problem."

UPDATE (3:36 p.m. Dec. 14):The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said Thursday afternoon it is investigating the crash of a Pilatus PC-12 airplane in San Angelo.

UPDATE (3 p.m. Dec. 14): Officials are expected to give a statement at 3:30 p.m. Thursday from the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY:Multiple law enforcement agencies and fire departments have responded to an area near Christoval Thursday afternoon.

A FOX West Texas reporter on scene says the Texas Department of Public Safety, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, San Angelo Fire Department and EMS and the Christoval Volunteer Fire Department have been at the location of Duff Road and US Hwy 277S.
